The Jamaica Design Association - Igniting Jamaica’s Revolution of Possibility!
8
The Jamaica Design Association (JDA) is a volunteer led organization set up to foster a spirit of camaraderie, sharing of knowledge, and the advancement of Jamaica through the advancement of its design industry as well as its design practitioners. From design hobbyists, design newbies, design students, to seasoned design professionals, all are welcomed to band together and learn from each other, thus helping each individual member to become better at his or her craft. Whether you’re a Designer living or working in Jamaica, or a Jamaican Designer living or working overseas, you are welcomed to join the Jamaica Design Association.
All design fields share similarities, and at the core of each design discipline lies the requirement that it’s practitioners posses a unique and magical ability known the world over as Design Thinking. For this reason, not only does the Jamaica Design Association help each Designer to become better at his or her design area of interest, but they are of the belief that through this blessed talent called Design Thinking, every Designer on the face of the planet has been endowed with the power to impact positive change within Jamaica and by extension the world! This is but one additional concept that the JDA promotes with and through its members.
Designers form all design disciplines are needed to assist in powering Jamaica’s Revolution of Possibility - Graphic Designers, Web Designers, Architects, Interaction Designers, Industrial Designers, Product Designers, Carpenters, Service Designers, Potters, Artists, Artisans, Writers, System Designers, Software Interface Designers, User Experience Designers, Experience Designers, Engineers, Interior Designers, Craft Designers, Fashion Designers, Sound Designers, Motion Designers, Cinematographers, Painters, Photographers, as well as persons from any field that involves some form of design. Thus all Designers from these varied fields are invited to join or partner with the Jamaica Design Association in order to fulfill this mandate.
The validity of this design integration concept was somewhat expressed many years ago through the words of Herbert Simon who said that “Engineering, medicine, business, architecture and painting are concerned not with the necessary but with the contingent - not with how things are but with how they might be - in short, with design.”
The video below encapsulates a part of the vision of the Jamaica Design Association. It shows how design can help make our world a better place, and also the primary reason that the integration of design disciplines under one group/organization is so important. It represents what is possible if you join the Jamaica Design Association, sharing in their efforts to ignite Jamaica’s very own Revolution of Possibility.
Jamaica is filled with many creative design geniuses, in fact, a Jamaican is a part of the team represented in this video. With the amazing design talent that Jamaica possesses, imagine what can be done if all Jamaican Designers band together, united with the goal of moving Jamaica forward!
Please watch this video and share your thoughts on the JDA’s vision:
